It contributes to the study of Transatlantic relations between Africa and Jamaica, and in particular to the understanding of African influences in Jamaican linguistic practices. The book constitutes a first study of these phenomena from a cognitive-linguistic perspective and investigates traveling conceptualizations at the intersection of language, culture and cognition. The author explores Jamaican linguistic practices in different domains namely conceptualizations involving parts of the (human) body, conceptualizations of events, roles and relations underlying serial verb constructions, and conceptualizations of kinship and names. The study can be regarded as an innovative contribution as it looks not only at linguistic expressions on the surface but discusses the underlying cultural and cognitive basis of semantic structures. The study thus aims at making African-Jamaican connections on the conceptual level visible and also discusses notions of consciousness, agency and emblematicity. 04 09 01 https://benjamins.com/covers/475/clu.14.png 04 03 01 https://benjamins.com/covers/475_jpg/9789027202970.jpg 04 03 01 https://benjamins.com/covers/475_tif/9789027202970.tif 06 09 01 https://benjamins.com/covers/1200_front/clu.14.hb.png 07 09 01 https://benjamins.com/covers/125/clu.14.png 25 09 01 https://benjamins.com/covers/1200_back/clu.14.hb.png 27 09 01 https://benjamins.com/covers/3d_web/clu.14.hb.png 10 01 JB code clu.14.001ack ix xii 4 Article 1 <TitleType>01</TitleType> <TitleText textformat="02">Acknowledgements</TitleText> 10 01 JB code clu.14.002tab xiii xiv 2 Article 2 <TitleType>01</TitleType> <TitleText textformat="02">Lists, tables, maps and pictures</TitleText> 10 01 JB code clu.14.003abb xv xvi 2 Article 3 <TitleType>01</TitleType> <TitleText textformat="02">Abbreviations</TitleText> 10 01 JB code clu.14.004lis xvii xx 4 Article 4 <TitleType>01</TitleType> <TitleText textformat="02">List 1: Index of languages</TitleText> 10 01 JB code clu.14.005lis xxi xxii 2 Article 5 <TitleType>01</TitleType> <TitleText textformat="02">List 2: African languages mentioned in the present study in discussions of cultural conceptualizations in Jamaican</TitleText> 10 01 JB code clu.14.006map xxiii xxiv 2 Article 6 <TitleType>01</TitleType> <TitleText textformat="02">Map 1: African languages mentioned in the present study in discussions of cultural conceptualizations in Jamaican</TitleText> 10 01 JB code clu.14.01int 1 6 6 Article 7 <TitleType>01</TitleType> <TitleText textformat="02">Chapter 1.
