Lives, portraits and likenesses in the work of Josep M. Espinàs
The literary career of Josep Maria Espinàs is marked by an interest in the genre of biography, in the broadest terms, which is evident his earliest work and to which he has recently returned. His biography of Josep Maria de Sagarra, published in 1962, and the six literary portraits of Catalan and Spanish writers compiled in Relacions particulars (Private Relationships, 2007) are studied in this article and allow us, on the one hand, to define, by means of the paratexts that accompany both works, similar concepts such as biography and literary portrait; and, on the other hand, to observe how Espinàs mirrors some of the writers he portrays.
