The study shows that there is no single class of stative verbs. Rather, several distinct groups of verbs are found: Verbs that undergo a systematic stative/eventive ambiguity; verbs that allow for a stative reading only; and verbs that seem to have an intermediate status (verbs of position and verbs of internal causation). The study concludes that there is a discrete boundary between stative and eventive verbs, excluding any intermediate status. Stativity arises because the aspectual operators DO and BECOME are absent in the lexical-semantic structure. Eventivity arises if one of these is present. A minimalist view on argument realization and event structure completes the book: Theta features on the arguments are checked against the aspectual heads within the verb phrase. 01 00 03 01 01 D503 https://benjamins.com/covers/475/la.143.png 01 01 D502 https://benjamins.com/covers/475_jpg/9789027255266.jpg 01 01 D504 https://benjamins.com/covers/475_tif/9789027255266.tif 01 01 D503 https://benjamins.com/covers/1200_front/la.143.hb.png 01 01 D503 https://benjamins.com/covers/125/la.143.png 02 00 03 01 01 D503 https://benjamins.com/covers/1200_back/la.143.hb.png 03 00 03 01 01 D503 https://benjamins.com/covers/3d_web/la.143.hb.png 01 01 JB code la.143.02ack 06 10.1075/la.143.02ack xiii xiv 2 Miscellaneous 1 01 04 Acknowledgements Acknowledgements 01 eng 01 01 JB code la.143.03tab 06 10.1075/la.143.03tab xv xvi 2 Miscellaneous 2 01 04 List of tables List of tables 01 eng 01 01 JB code la.143.04ch1 06 10.1075/la.143.04ch1 1 2 2 Chapter 3 01 04 Chapter 1.
