The analysis is carried out within a Government and Binding framework. 03 00 This book provides an analysis of the passive phenomenon in general and of Norwegian passive constructions in particular. Related topics such as English passive constructions and Norwegian ergative constructions are also examined. The analysis is carried out within a Government and Binding framework. Chapter 1 contains a very brief introduction to GB syntax and a description of the passive phenomenon and its manifestation in Norwegian. The “orthodox analysis” of the passive as proposed in Chomsky's Lectures on Government and Binding is contrasted with the “new analysis”, which claims that “the passive morpheme” is an argument of the verb. The book sets out to show that a version of this “new analysis” successfully explains the basic properties of Norwegian passives. Chapters 2 and 3 examine properties of Norwegian passives, notably properties related to Theta-role assignment and Case assignment. Chapter 4 compares the Norwegian with the English passive and proposes a unified analysis of the two. Chapter 5 discusses various cases of passivization failure in Norwegian , while Chapter 6 focuses on the scope of movement in passive and ergative constructions in Norwegian and proposes a syntactic level “beneath” D-structure. 01 00 03 01 01 D503 https://benjamins.com/covers/475/la.7.png 01 01 D502 https://benjamins.com/covers/475_jpg/9789027227270.jpg 01 01 D504 https://benjamins.com/covers/475_tif/9789027227270.tif 01 01 D503 https://benjamins.com/covers/1200_front/la.7.hb.png 01 01 D503 https://benjamins.com/covers/125/la.7.png 02 00 03 01 01 D503 https://benjamins.com/covers/1200_back/la.7.hb.png 03 00 03 01 01 D503 https://benjamins.com/covers/3d_web/la.7.hb.png 01 01 JB code la.7.01pre 06 10.1075/la.7.01pre IX Miscellaneous 1 01 04 Preface Preface 01 eng 01 01 JB code la.7.02int 06 10.1075/la.7.02int 1 Chapter 2 01 04 Introduction Introduction 01 eng 01 01 JB code la.7.03the 06 10.1075/la.7.03the 29 Chapter 3 01 04 Theta-role Assignment in Passives Theta-role Assignment in Passives 01 eng 01 01 JB code la.7.04cas 06 10.1075/la.7.04cas 53 Chapter 4 01 04 Case Assignment in Passives Case Assignment in Passives 01 eng 01 01 JB code la.7.05aco 06 10.1075/la.7.05aco 77 Chapter 5 01 04 A Comparative Analysis: Norwegian and English Passives A Comparative Analysis: Norwegian and English Passives 01 eng 01 01 JB code la.7.06pas 06 10.1075/la.7.06pas 101 Chapter 6 01 04 Passivization and Ergative Verbs Passivization and Ergative Verbs 01 eng 01 01 JB code la.7.07org 06 10.1075/la.7.07org 135 Chapter 7 01 04 Organization of Grammar and Ergative and Passive Constructions Organization of Grammar and Ergative and Passive Constructions 01 eng 01 01 JB code la.7.08ref 06 10.1075/la.7.08ref 169 Miscellaneous 8 01 04 References References 01 eng 01 01 JB code la.7.09sub 06 10.1075/la.7.09sub 175 Miscellaneous 9 01 04 Subject Index Subject Index 01 eng 01 JB code JBENJAMINS John Benjamins Publishing Company 01 01 JB code JB John Benjamins Publishing Company 01 https://benjamins.com 02 https://benjamins.com/catalog/la.7 Amsterdam NL 00 John Benjamins Publishing Company Marketing Department / Karin Plijnaar, Pieter Lamers onix@benjamins.nl 04 01 00 19921106 C 1992 John Benjamins Publishing Company 02 WORLD WORLD US CA MX 09 01 JB 1 John Benjamins Publishing Company +31 20 6304747 +31 20 6739773 bookorder@benjamins.nl 01 https://benjamins.com 21 9 01 00 Unqualified price 02 JB 1 02 99.00 EUR 02 00 Unqualified price 02 83.00 01 Z 0 GBP GB US CA MX 01 01 JB 2 John Benjamins Publishing Company +1 800 562-5666 +1 703 661-1501 benjamins@presswarehouse.com 01 https://benjamins.com 21 9 01 00 Unqualified price 02 JB 1 02 149.00 USD 182013466 03 01 01 JB code JB John Benjamins Publishing Company 01 JB code LA 7 GE 15 9789027282446 06 10.1075/la.7 00 EA E133 10 01 JB code LA 02 JB code 0166-0829 02 7.00 01 02 Linguistik Aktuell/Linguistics Today Linguistik Aktuell/Linguistics Today 01 01 The Syntax of Norwegian Passive Constructions The Syntax of Norwegian Passive Constructions 1 A01 01 JB code 565 Tor A.
