Of the 40 or so native tongues Georgian is the most widely spoken (by up to 5 million, of whom 3 million are ethnic Georgians). With its own unique script, Georgian has been written since the 4th century and has a rich literature of all genres. Outside Georgia, however, it has remained virtually unknown and unstudied, its grammatical intricacies being discussed by a small but ever growing succession of foreign specialists. The present work represents the first Reference Grammar of this challenging language to appear in English and is the summation of 20 years of intensive study by its author. 01 00 03 01 01 D503 https://benjamins.com/covers/475/loall.2.png 01 01 D502 https://benjamins.com/covers/475_jpg/9789027238023.jpg 01 01 D504 https://benjamins.com/covers/475_tif/9789027238023.tif 01 01 D503 https://benjamins.com/covers/1200_front/loall.2.hb.png 01 01 D503 https://benjamins.com/covers/125/loall.2.png 02 00 03 01 01 D503 https://benjamins.com/covers/1200_back/loall.2.hb.png 03 00 03 01 01 D503 https://benjamins.com/covers/3d_web/loall.2.hb.png 01 01 JB code loall.2.01map 06 10.1075/loall.2.01map vi Miscellaneous 1 01 04 Map Map 01 eng 01 01 JB code loall.2.02pre 06 10.1075/loall.2.02pre xiii Miscellaneous 2 01 04 Preface Preface 01 eng 01 01 JB code loall.2.03ack 06 10.1075/loall.2.03ack xiv Miscellaneous 3 01 04 Acknowledgements Acknowledgements 01 eng 01 01 JB code loall.2.04abb 06 10.1075/loall.2.04abb xv Miscellaneous 4 01 04 Abbreviations Abbreviations 01 eng 01 01 JB code loall.2.05the 06 10.1075/loall.2.05the xvii Miscellaneous 5 01 04 The Georgian Alphabet The Georgian Alphabet 01 eng 01 01 JB code loall.2.06cha 06 10.1075/loall.2.06cha 1 Chapter 6 01 04 Chapter I: Introdution Chapter I: Introdution 01 eng 01 01 JB code loall.2.07cha 06 10.1075/loall.2.07cha 19 Chapter 7 01 04 Chapter II: Sound System Chapter II: Sound System 01 eng 01 01 JB code loall.2.08cha 06 10.1075/loall.2.08cha 33 Chapter 8 01 04 Chapter III: Non-verbal Morphology Chapter III: Non-verbal Morphology 01 eng 01 01 JB code loall.2.09cha 06 10.1075/loall.2.09cha 117 Chapter 9 01 04 Chapter IV: Verbal Morphology Chapter IV: Verbal Morphology 01 eng 01 01 JB code loall.2.10cha 06 10.1075/loall.2.10cha 523 Chapter 10 01 04 Chapter V: Syntax Chapter V: Syntax 01 eng 01 01 JB code loall.2.11cha 06 10.1075/loall.2.11cha 637 Chapter 11 01 04 Chapter VI: Texts Chapter VI: Texts 01 eng 01 01 JB code loall.2.12cha 06 10.1075/loall.2.12cha 685 Chapter 12 01 04 Chapter VII: Sample Vocabularies in Semantic Fields Chapter VII: Sample Vocabularies in Semantic Fields 01 eng 01 01 JB code loall.2.13ref 06 10.1075/loall.2.13ref 697 Miscellaneous 13 01 04 References and Bibliography References and Bibliography 01 eng 01 01 JB code loall.2.14ind 06 10.1075/loall.2.14ind 707 Miscellaneous 14 01 04 Index Index 01 eng 01 JB code JBENJAMINS John Benjamins Publishing Company 01 01 JB code JB John Benjamins Publishing Company 01 https://benjamins.com 02 https://benjamins.com/catalog/loall.2 Amsterdam NL 00 John Benjamins Publishing Company Marketing Department / Karin Plijnaar, Pieter Lamers onix@benjamins.nl 04 01 00 19951220 C 1995 John Benjamins Publishing Company 02 WORLD WORLD US CA MX 09 01 JB 1 John Benjamins Publishing Company +31 20 6304747 +31 20 6739773 bookorder@benjamins.nl 01 https://benjamins.com 21 2 10 01 00 Unqualified price 02 JB 1 02 172.00 EUR 02 00 Unqualified price 02 144.00 01 Z 0 GBP GB US CA MX 01 01 JB 2 John Benjamins Publishing Company +1 800 562-5666 +1 703 661-1501 benjamins@presswarehouse.com 01 https://benjamins.com 21 2 10 01 00 Unqualified price 02 JB 1 02 258.00 USD 437013648 03 01 01 JB code JB John Benjamins Publishing Company 01 JB code LOALL 2 GE 15 9789027283115 06 10.1075/loall.2 00 EA E133 10 01 JB code LOALL 02 JB code 1382-3485 02 2.00 01 02 London Oriental and African Language Library London Oriental and African Language Library 01 01 Georgian Georgian 1 A01 01 JB code 1454 George Hewitt Hewitt, George George Hewitt School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London 01 eng 11 732 03 03 xviii 03 00 716 03 24 JB code LIN.CAUC Caucasian languages 10 LAN009000 12 CF 01 06 02 00 This text forms part of a series which aims to make available reliable and up-to-date descriptions of the grammatical structure of a wide range of Oriental and African languages, in a form readily accessible to the non-specialist. 03 00 The Caucasus for its size can boast more languages than any other region on earth.
