Three types of questions are addressed. The first has empirically measured answers: For example, do L2 English writers produce more metaphors than L1 novice writers? How frequent are novel metaphors in an L2, as compared with an L1? The second type has more subjective answers: How creatively do L2 English learners employ metaphor? Are they even expected to be able to produce metaphor at all? The third type combines theoretical and methodological perspectives: How is metaphorical creativity identified? What is the potential role of metaphoric competence? Most importantly, how are metaphors identified? To this end, the newly-developed ‘Metaphor Identification Procedure’ is tested and critiqued. This book is intended for metaphor researchers, corpus linguists, applied linguists and language educators. 01 00 03 01 01 D503 https://benjamins.com/covers/475/milcc.2.png 01 01 D502 https://benjamins.com/covers/475_jpg/9789027202062.jpg 01 01 D504 https://benjamins.com/covers/475_tif/9789027202062.tif 01 01 D503 https://benjamins.com/covers/1200_front/milcc.2.hb.png 01 01 D503 https://benjamins.com/covers/125/milcc.2.png 02 00 03 01 01 D503 https://benjamins.com/covers/1200_back/milcc.2.hb.png 03 00 03 01 01 D503 https://benjamins.com/covers/3d_web/milcc.2.hb.png 01 01 JB code milcc.2.00ack 06 10.1075/milcc.2.00ack xi xi 1 Miscellaneous 1 01 04 Acknowledgements Acknowledgements 01 01 JB code milcc.2.01int 06 10.1075/milcc.2.01int 1 6 6 Chapter 2 01 04 Introduction Introduction 01 01 JB code milcc.2.02p1 06 10.1075/milcc.2.02p1 Section header 3 01 04 Part I Part I 01 01 JB code milcc.2.03ch1 06 10.1075/milcc.2.03ch1 9 36 28 Chapter 4 01 04 1.
