It seemed, then, that nonsense would be a fertile base in the study of nonautomatic comprehension, i.e. comprehension where the word-meaning relations do not seem to be self-evident. And fertile it was! This monograph reports the results of a study into the nonautomatic functioning of the linguistic network which includes idiosyncratic as well as common, coded elements at all levels: semantic, syntactic, and phonetic as well as episodic. To carry it out, a number of adults and children were given nonsense texts to interpret. These interpretations were in turn analyzed as to the strategies applied toward the comprehension of those texts. Various examples of nonsense in mass media were also analyzed in the light of these findings. 01 00 03 01 01 D503 https://benjamins.com/covers/475/pb.v.1.png 01 01 D502 https://benjamins.com/covers/475_jpg/9789027225344.jpg 01 01 D504 https://benjamins.com/covers/475_tif/9789027225344.tif 01 01 D503 https://benjamins.com/covers/1200_front/pb.v.1.pb.png 01 01 D503 https://benjamins.com/covers/125/pb.v.1.png 02 00 03 01 01 D503 https://benjamins.com/covers/1200_back/pb.v.1.pb.png 03 00 03 01 01 D503 https://benjamins.com/covers/3d_web/pb.v.1.pb.png 01 01 JB code pb.v.1.01ack 06 10.1075/pb.v.1.01ack vii Miscellaneous 1 01 04 Acknowledgments Acknowledgments 01 eng 01 01 JB code pb.v.1.02int 06 10.1075/pb.v.1.02int 1 Miscellaneous 2 01 04 0.
