These differences derive mainly from the creation of a fictional figure who narrates the text and who, in turn, addresses his narrative to a fictional audience. Since these figures become the language users of the fictional text and, therefore, displace the actual writer and reader from the communicative context, they dominate the text’s pragmatic features. After elaborating a description of fiction from the point of view of these fictional language users, some of the implications for literary interpretation are taken up, particularly those for reader-oriented criticism. 01 00 03 01 01 D503 https://benjamins.com/covers/475/pb.vi.2.png 01 01 D502 https://benjamins.com/covers/475_jpg/9789027225443.jpg 01 01 D504 https://benjamins.com/covers/475_tif/9789027225443.tif 01 01 D503 https://benjamins.com/covers/1200_front/pb.vi.2.pb.png 01 01 D503 https://benjamins.com/covers/125/pb.vi.2.png 02 00 03 01 01 D503 https://benjamins.com/covers/1200_back/pb.vi.2.pb.png 03 00 03 01 01 D503 https://benjamins.com/covers/3d_web/pb.vi.2.pb.png 01 01 JB code pb.vi.2.01int 06 10.1075/pb.vi.2.01int 1 Chapter 1 01 04 1.
