The collection of papers maybe of interest to theoretical and contrastive linguists, language teachers and lexicographers. 03 00 This book is about particles in the narrower sense of the word as opposed to the broader meaning covering all uninflected words of a language. In the narrower meaning of the linguistic term particles can be distinguished between logical, or scalar particles and modal, or pragmatic particles. The semantic, pragmatic and syntactic properties of modal particles differ vastly from those of the scalar particles, on the one hand, and their homonymic counterparts functioning in different syntactic categories, on the other hand. The contributions to this volume offer the latest research on the semantic, pragmatic and syntactic properties of particles in the English and German language. 01 00 03 01 01 D503 https://benjamins.com/covers/475/pbns.12.png 01 01 D502 https://benjamins.com/covers/475_jpg/9789027250223.jpg 01 01 D504 https://benjamins.com/covers/475_tif/9789027250223.tif 01 01 D503 https://benjamins.com/covers/1200_front/pbns.12.hb.png 01 01 D503 https://benjamins.com/covers/125/pbns.12.png 02 00 03 01 01 D503 https://benjamins.com/covers/1200_back/pbns.12.hb.png 03 00 03 01 01 D503 https://benjamins.com/covers/3d_web/pbns.12.hb.png 01 01 JB code pbns.12.01for 06 10.1075/pbns.12.01for vii Miscellaneous 1 01 04 Foreword Foreword 01 eng 01 01 JB code pbns.12.02int 06 10.1075/pbns.12.02int 1 Article 2 01 04 Introduction Introduction 01 eng 01 01 JB code pbns.12.03ide 06 10.1075/pbns.12.03ide 11 Article 3 01 04 Identical values in conflicting roles Identical values in conflicting roles 01 04 The use of German ausgerechnet, eben, genau and gerade as focus particles The use of German ausgerechnet, eben, genau and gerade as focus particles 1 A01 01 JB code 240451894 Ekkehard König König, Ekkehard Ekkehard König 07 https://benjamins.com/catalog/persons/240451894 01 eng 01 01 JB code pbns.12.04ste 06 10.1075/pbns.12.04ste 37 Article 4 01 04 Focusing and background operators Focusing and background operators 1 A01 01 JB code 917039724 Arnim Stechow Stechow, Arnim Arnim Stechow 07 https://benjamins.com/catalog/persons/917039724 01 eng 01 01 JB code pbns.12.05loe 06 10.1075/pbns.12.05loe 85 Article 5 01 04 Schon -- erst -- noch Schon — erst — noch 01 04 An integrated analysis An integrated analysis 1 A01 01 JB code 769039725 Sebastian Löbner Löbner, Sebastian Sebastian Löbner 07 https://benjamins.com/catalog/persons/769039725 01 eng 01 01 JB code pbns.12.06jac 06 10.1075/pbns.12.06jac 141 Article 6 01 04 On the semantics of modal particles On the semantics of modal particles 1 A01 01 JB code 120039726 Joachim Jacobs Jacobs, Joachim Joachim Jacobs 07 https://benjamins.com/catalog/persons/120039726 01 eng 01 01 JB code pbns.12.07lin 06 10.1075/pbns.12.07lin 163 Article 7 01 04 `Wir sind ja doch alte bekannte'.
