It examines how participants reinforce or interrogate firmly entrenched power heirarchies that have long elevated English in India. Adopting a social constructionist perspective, and treating oral narratives as impacted both by local interactional contingencies and by larger social contexts, this book provides an innovative framework for the analysis of narratives told in qualitative research interviews. Stylization, mock languages, similes and metaphors, reported speech, and varied interactional cues are some of the devices used to examine the intersectioanlity of power and identity within participants’ oral narratives. The book will be of interest to scholars and students of narrative analysis, gender and identity studies, postcolonialism, and professional identity constructions of women. 01 00 03 01 01 D503 https://benjamins.com/covers/475/sin.23.png 01 01 D502 https://benjamins.com/covers/475_jpg/9789027249364.jpg 01 01 D504 https://benjamins.com/covers/475_tif/9789027249364.tif 01 01 D503 https://benjamins.com/covers/1200_front/sin.23.hb.png 01 01 D503 https://benjamins.com/covers/125/sin.23.png 02 00 03 01 01 D503 https://benjamins.com/covers/1200_back/sin.23.hb.png 03 00 03 01 01 D503 https://benjamins.com/covers/3d_web/sin.23.hb.png 01 01 JB code sin.23.001tra 06 10.1075/sin.23.001tra xi xii 2 Article 1 01 04 Transcription key Transcription key 01 eng 01 01 JB code sin.23.01int 06 10.1075/sin.23.01int 1 56 56 Article 2 01 04 Chapter 1.
