This book examines the acquisition of complex morphology of Murrinhpatha, a polysynthetic language of Northern Australia. It considers semi-naturalistic data from five children (1;9-6;1) collected over a two-year period. Analysis of the Murrinhpatha data is focused on the acquisition of polysynthetic verb constructions, large irregular inflectional paradigms, and bipartite stem verbs, which all pose interesting challenges to the learner, as well as to theories of language acquisition. The book argues that morphological complexity, which broadly includes factors such as transparency, predictability/regularity, richness, type/token frequency and productivity, must become central to our understanding of morphological acquisition. It seeks to understand how acquisition is impacted by differences in morphological systems and by the ways in which children and their interlocutors use these systems. 04 09 01 https://benjamins.com/covers/475/tilar.30.png 04 03 01 https://benjamins.com/covers/475_jpg/9789027210111.jpg 04 03 01 https://benjamins.com/covers/475_tif/9789027210111.tif 06 09 01 https://benjamins.com/covers/1200_front/tilar.30.hb.png 07 09 01 https://benjamins.com/covers/125/tilar.30.png 25 09 01 https://benjamins.com/covers/1200_back/tilar.30.hb.png 27 09 01 https://benjamins.com/covers/3d_web/tilar.30.hb.png 10 01 JB code tilar.30.lot ix x 2 Miscellaneous 1 <TitleType>01</TitleType> <TitleText textformat="02">List of tables</TitleText> 10 01 JB code tilar.30.lof xi xii 2 Miscellaneous 2 <TitleType>01</TitleType> <TitleText textformat="02">List of figures</TitleText> 10 01 JB code tilar.30.glossary xiii xiv 2 Miscellaneous 3 <TitleType>01</TitleType> <TitleText textformat="02">Abbreviations</TitleText> 10 01 JB code tilar.30.ack xv xvi 2 Miscellaneous 4 <TitleType>01</TitleType> <TitleText textformat="02">Acknowledgements</TitleText> 10 01 JB code tilar.30.c1 1 10 10 Chapter 5 <TitleType>01</TitleType> <TitleText textformat="02">Chapter 1.
