While numerous problems in the meaning, syntax, and morphology of these categories in Indo-European remain unsolved, their counterparts in more exotic languages have raised still further questions. What discourse functions and diachronic events unite 'voice' as a recognizable phenomenon across languages? How are they typically grammaticalized? What stages do children go through in learning them? How does 'voice' link up with ergativity and with other categories and constructions such as the Inverse and the Antipassive? The authors in this volume have different perspectives on these problems: they discuss voice, e.g., from a typological-universal view, in relation to language acquisition and to ergativity, and from diachronic and cross-linguistic perspectives. 04 09 01 https://benjamins.com/covers/475/tsl.27.png 04 03 01 https://benjamins.com/covers/475_jpg/9789027229151.jpg 04 03 01 https://benjamins.com/covers/475_tif/9789027229151.tif 06 09 01 https://benjamins.com/covers/1200_front/tsl.27.hb.png 07 09 01 https://benjamins.com/covers/125/tsl.27.png 25 09 01 https://benjamins.com/covers/1200_back/tsl.27.hb.png 27 09 01 https://benjamins.com/covers/3d_web/tsl.27.hb.png 10 01 JB code tsl.27.01abb vii 1 Miscellaneous 1 <TitleType>01</TitleType> <TitleText textformat="02">Abbreviations</TitleText> 10 01 JB code tsl.27.02int ix 1 Miscellaneous 2 <TitleType>01</TitleType> <TitleText textformat="02">Introduction</TitleText> 10 01 JB code tsl.27.03arc 1 1 Article 3 <TitleType>01</TitleType> <TitleText textformat="02">Active Voice and Middle Diathesis</TitleText> <Subtitle textformat="02">A Cross-Linguistic Perspective</Subtitle> 1 A01 Manuel Arce-Arenales Arce-Arenales, Manuel Manuel Arce-Arenales 2 A01 Melissa Axelrod Axelrod, Melissa Melissa Axelrod 3 A01 Barbara A. 04 09 01 https://benjamins.com/covers/475/tsl.27.png 04 03 01 https://benjamins.com/covers/475_jpg/9789027229151.jpg 04 03 01 https://benjamins.com/covers/475_tif/9789027229151.tif 06 09 01 https://benjamins.com/covers/1200_front/tsl.27.pb.png 07 09 01 https://benjamins.com/covers/125/tsl.27.png 25 09 01 https://benjamins.com/covers/1200_back/tsl.27.pb.png 27 09 01 https://benjamins.com/covers/3d_web/tsl.27.pb.png 10 01 JB code tsl.27.01abb vii 1 Miscellaneous 1 <TitleType>01</TitleType> <TitleText textformat="02">Abbreviations</TitleText> 10 01 JB code tsl.27.02int ix 1 Miscellaneous 2 <TitleType>01</TitleType> <TitleText textformat="02">Introduction</TitleText> 10 01 JB code tsl.27.03arc 1 1 Article 3 <TitleType>01</TitleType> <TitleText textformat="02">Active Voice and Middle Diathesis</TitleText> <Subtitle textformat="02">A Cross-Linguistic Perspective</Subtitle> 1 A01 Manuel Arce-Arenales Arce-Arenales, Manuel Manuel Arce-Arenales 2 A01 Melissa Axelrod Axelrod, Melissa Melissa Axelrod 3 A01 Barbara A.
