A survey of approaches to, and problems in second language acquisition. W. presents some views on characteristics of language and language acquisition that are of particular importance for the process of second language acquisition, and in their light a number of techniques in foreign language teaching are discussed, and problems for developing adequate teaching materials and procedures are analyzed. The global concept of the approach is based on a social view on language use.
