Annotation

W. describes a computer system for understanding English. It answers questions, executes commands, and accepts information in an interactive English dialogue. The underlying assumption is that modeling language understanding must be based on an integrated approach to syntax, semantics, and inference. The various sorts of knowledge are represented in the form of procedures. The grammar involved is based on Halliday's systemic functional grammar.
