Annotation

Indirect and implicit speech acts are always double speech acts: they are performed by means of a direct one. In the case of an indirect speech act the uptake of the proposition of the direct speech act is the condition for the realization of the non-direct one (e.g. 'Ich stelle fest, dass dein Weinkeller gut bestückt ist', spoken by a guest who wants his host to offer a glass of wine after he has shown him around the house); in the case of an implicit speech act the uptake of the proposition of the explicit form of the non-direct speech act is the condition for the realization of the direct one (e.g. 'Ja, während der Halbzeit, spoken by a father in reply to his son's request for an ice cream during a soccer match and hoping that his son will let him watch the game quietly for a while).
