A discussion of different ways of defining 'argument'. Two main distinctions are made: (a) between expert-derived definitions (deductively deriving and validating hypothetical descriptions from prior conceptions), and subject-derived definitions (inductively deriving from observation of argumentation), and (b) between descriptive and prescriptive definitions.
