An analysis of pragmatic competence acquisition, through study of spontaneous meatpragmatic comments made by preschoolers (2,6 - 4,3 years old) in a naturalistic setting. The assumption is that, rather than simply being passive recipients of information about pragmatics, children attempt to formulate reasonable pragmatic rules and concepts, try out and seek verification for their knowledge and ask for additional information when they are aware that they require it.
