The authors study the operations involved in answering different types of questions by Spanish speaking children. Questions are classified according to the type of task they require the listener to perform, and an evaluation of the accomplishment of this task is used to categorize answers as correct or incorrect. The aim is to throw some light on how the Gricean maxims are operating in question asking and question answering.
