Annotation
An attempt to show how language use as an activity can essentially be organized around four dimensions, viz. the bipersonal dimension (the purposive relation between speaker and hearer), the audience dimension (concerning types of listeners), the layered dimension (the embedding of settings with participants and communication), and the temporal dimension.
