Annotation

A study of deficiencies in language skill of advanced students of English in a German university. In spite of their advanced level, the students' essay-writing shows inadequate practical knowledge of the use of collocations, resulting in collocational blends, i.e. non-existing semantico-syntactical constructions. Practical conclusions are drawn regarding second-language teaching.
