Annotation

The author examines the view that the meaning of a word can be characterized as a conceptual prototype. It is argued that although goodness-of-exemplar ratings indirectly reflect the meaning of a word, there are good reasons for doubting whether the semantic part of a lexical entry, the lexical concept, should be characterized in such terms.
