In one of the sections of this book, B. claims that sentence adverbs such as 'probably', as in 'Probably Peter will come', are used performatively and that this performativity explains why negation of the sentence adverb is impossible, why it cannot bequestioned with 'Really?', and why certain restrictions on its combination with other sentence adverbs hold.
