Annotation

A discussion of ecological factors promoting the survival and stability of the English creole Gullah: racial segregation, group identity, contacts with non-Gullah speakers. It is noted that, although sociolinguistically stable, Gullah's survival may be in danger due to the fact that an increasing number of young people are seeking employment outside the community.
