Annotation

On the relationship of (endangered) traditional New Mexican Spanish to modern Mexican Spanish. It is concluded that the former is spoken in northern New Mexico and southern Colorado, while the latter can be found in southern and urban New Mexico. Lexis, phonology and grammar are compared. A linguistic hierarchy is postulated, as well as the existence of a relationship between language use and economic status promoting English.
