Annotation

The influence of referential expressions (i.e. pronouns and proper names) on reading comprehension is studied. Increased reading times are measured for repeated names as compared to pronouns and for coreferring subjects. Reading times correlate with discourse structure. The results conform to mainstream theories of discourse processing.
