It is shown how language contact between Berber Classical Arabic has given way to Moroccan Arabic of the Maghreb, which has since evolved into a language variety that is not mutually intelligible anymore to other Arabic dialect speakers. Evidence of Moroccan Arabic's assimilation to Berber is given, illustrating the linguistic dominance of Berber in North Africa.
