Annotation

Problems of language policy pertaining to bilingual communities in larger monolingual societies are analyzed. It is noted that in the U.S., bilingualism is sometimes perceived as inhibitive to national unity, thereby serving as a counterargument to immigration policies. Supreme Court decisions reflecting this perception are discussed.
