Annotation

In this study of function, distribution and realization of attention-drawing devices, it is found that (1) register and politeness condition the use of these devices in both languages, (2) verbs of visual capacity are highly frequent in both languages and (3) English tends to draw attention prosodically, while Spanish does so lexically.
