Annotation
As literacy has become the focus of political debates on education, the question of which literacies should be fostered at which level of education, became important. In the context of the literacy debate in Australia, literacy being described as proficiency in registers highly valued in the dominant culture, the literacies required for mastering school subjects as geography and science have become key issues. Hence this paper proposes to study geographical visual literacy, based on a set of Australian junior high school geography textbooks.
