Annotation

Given the central role of language in the creation and maintenance of knowledge, the author proposes to explore the language of school history. It is stated that a critical orientation, exposing the constructed nature of discourse, gives students access to socially powerful meanings and practice at making these meanings, and changes their view upon these meanings.
