The titel refers to the complex -both interdependent and potentially conflictual- interweaving of language forms characterizing the relationship among English and several varieties of French in francophone Toronto. Crosswords moreover constituted a central element of the ethnography- and cooperative-learning based teaching materials the author introduced into Toronto French-language schools in order to foster increased awareness of language use and a greater range of proficiency in varieties of French.
