This contribution reports on a longitudinal study of the language acquisition of Danish syntax by six young Albanese, English and Vietnamese immigrants. The study was designed when performance analysis, variability in Interlanguage Study and discourse analysis were the focus of second language researcher's attention, but it only took shape when IL data analysis was combined with the functional approach.
