This book suggests that colonialist domination was helped by, and in turn produced, images of the Self and the Other and that these cultural constructs run deep and have lasting effects. In order to prove this thesis, Pennycook focuses on the use of English and more particularly on the role of English language teaching programs in colonial and contemporary Asia.
