A collection of twelve lectures criticizing contemporary sociolinguistics (e.g. overemphasis on the regulative aspects of language, the absence of sociological thinking, etc.) addressing such key issues as language variation, language contact and intercultural communication. Topics such as lexicography, the synthesis of politics and linguistics, and probability theory are also reviewed.
