Annotation

The analysis of American Sign Language (ASL) narrative highlights the fact that sign language discourse, like spoken language discourse, consists of grammatically coded signs and non-grammatically coded meaningful gestures. Some ASL sign categories are not normally produced without a deictic gesture.
