A critical discourse analysis of two institutional texts: incoming university students' requests for the re-evaluation of their entrance exams and the corresponding regulatory Ministerial Directive. Explanations are given for: acceptability criteria of the students' texts, and the ambiguities and properties of the bureaucratic text. Finally, a case is made for raising citizens' awareness of the importance of discourse in social conflicts, and promoting linguistic resources needed to front social domination.
