Annotation

In Korean, the sentence-terminal suffix -CI denotes contextual meanings like speaker supposition, asking for confirmation, suggestion, etc. Underlying these meanings is a sense of belief on the speaker's part, a meaning dubbed 'committal'. This approach is argued to explain also the extended uses of the suffix in some negative constructions and their interactional functions.
