This article is concerned with the activation of the relationship between antecedent and associative anaphor: is this a process of preactivation or, on the contrary, retroactivation? Using eye-tracking recording, a sentence reading task designed to examine anaphoric resolution is reported on. The results point out that, in this case, associative anaphora resolution can be seen as a process of forward associative inferencing, contextually induced during reading.
