Annotation
Drawing on a meeting between Israelis and Palestinians, the concept of sociopolitical identity-displays (SPID) is introduced as a discourse-pragmatic function of identity. Differences in SPID usage are described, with a focus on social-psychological motivations such as 'symbolic mobility' and 'psychological distinctiveness'.
