Annotation

Discourse markers are defined as a class of lexical expressions that link the interpretation of a segment they introduce to a prior segment. Their core meaning is procedural, the linguistic and conceptual context facilitates their more specific interpretation. Types and major classes according to their discourse function are also discussed.
