Annotation
Having observed that a vital component of Japanese communicative competence is the ability of attentive listening, this study examines teacher-student discourse to see how Japanese children acquire this skill in relation to the process of language socialization.
Focusing on the classroom activity of HAPPYOO ('presentation'), it is shown that this type of peer group interaction functions as a major socialization resource for Japanese students in view of acquiring the attentive listening skill.
