This study analyzes humorous anecdotes by female narrators about their own personal misadventures or inadequacies, as seen in the context of complex conversational image politics. It is shown how via self-mockery, the women express specific aspects of their identity. An explanation is given for why only women use this type of self-mockery, and not men.
