Annotation

This paper examines the encoding process of mental representations of characters in a corpus of ghost stories. These character representations are labeled actants. It is indicated that tracking agents in narratives implies that information about participant roles is encoded in the narrative. It is also argued that ghost stories yield relevant insights into discourse anaphora in narrative.
