Annotation

Two approaches to resolving the Mutual Knowledge Paradox are reviewed. The analysis of spoken language shows that a psychologically viable account of how common ground is achieved between two persons is based on the notion of shared belief, rather than mutual knowledge. A classification of 'categories' of common ground is proposed.
