On the role linguistic encoding plays in speaker meaning: Grice's, Strawson's and more contemporary accounts of linguistic code are discussed. Despite counterarguments claiming that encoded meaning cannot be propositional, this article claims the opposite on the basis of thruth-conditionally defined propositions.
