Annotation

Following a comparison of German cultural scripts to English cultural scripts, the author documents major changes in German ways of speaking and cultural values (e.g. the decline in the use of titles as an example of increased informality). However, the presence of public signs implies that traditional German values such as social discipline still hold strong. It is concluded that the study of cultural scripts may offer insight into otherwise misunderstood ways of speaking and the underlying cultural logic.
