A critical evaluation of conversation analytic methodology as used in feminist studies of the relationship between gender and language. Three issues are addressed: the analytic compatibility of feminism and conversation analysis, the use of gender descriptions and orientations in participants' terms and the fact that conversation analysis does not fully acknowledge culture and common-sense knowledge as resources.
