On the presentation of social groups (us vs them) in newspapers discourse and the socio-political construction of ideology in relation to group dominance. Patterns of transitivity, modality and theme are traced in Turkish newspaper editorials, revealing representational processes that condition positive self-presentation and negative other-presentation in the context of 'secular' and 'anti-secular' discourses.
