Appliying politeness theory to adversarial political discourse (viz. the Prime Minister's Question Time in the British Parliament), this article discusses intentional face-threatening (or face-enhancing) acts, the co-existence of negative politeness with the hearer's positive face and the reception of systematic impoliteness by Members of the House.
