A critical analysis of Chinese newspaper reports on civil unrest in South Africa and Argentina, focusing on how two ideologically contrasting newspapers justify and legitimize Chinese and Taiwanese foreign policies. It is shown how several discourse strategies and features are manipulated to create a discourse that appeals to the two different readerships.
